Jimmy Carter began his political career in the State Senate. As farmer, family man, Christian and community leader, he represented integrity and high ideals to Georgia’s 14th district. For two terms, 1963-66, the senator from Plains served with distinction. His hard work on behalf of education, mental health, consumer reforms and racial equality improved the daily lives of his fellow Georgians.
