This Carter family scrapbook records Jimmy’s fight to expose the Quitman County voting scandal in the 1963 senatorial campaign, which temporarily denied him victory. With the help of friends, Carter proved the ballot box had been stuffed, forced a new election and won.

“In 1964 our General Assembly passed a comprehensive new Election Code, primarily as a result of the highly publicized Quitman County scandals in my Senate race.”
